Silver Scene's Fourth shop - Totnes

Silver Scene's Fourth shop - Totnes

Totnes is a beautiful market town located in South Devon. The town has a strong focus on small independent retailers, selling handmade crafts and ethical products. In 2009, Trudi and Marcus added to the excellent selection of local traders, and opened their fourth Silver Scene shop. Located on Fore Street, this little gem of a street is known to some as 'simply one of the most beautiful streets in any British town', the perfect location for a Silver Scene shop.

The wonderful Katie manages our Totnes shop, and has done for over 10 years! The shop front has been painted in a beautiful, vibrant green colour that stands out, and is a recognisible and integral part of the high street.

History of Totnes - Fore Street

The historical town has an interesting medieval past. According to an old legend, Brutus of Troy (First King of Britain) came off his ship, from the bank of River Dart to the High Street and declared, "Here I stand and here I rest and this town shall be called Totnes".

Totnes dates back to Saxon times and was listed in the Domesday Book (1086). Totnes Castle is one of the best preserved English heritage sites and dates back to the 14th century.

After the decline of the cloth trade in the 18th century, Totnes had to rely on moving their market town to be a river trading point. Now the town relies on its heritage and welcomes tourists from all around the world.

The local people of Totnes have a friendly community and strong sustainable values. In 2012, the town famously won the case to stop Costa Coffee from opening up on the High Street. This would threaten the vibrant independent businesses, and the victory was celebrated by the locals.

'Silver Scene Ltd is a great company to work for. We call it 'our Silver Scene family', and that's exactly how it feels.

What's your favourite stone?

'My favorite stones are Jasper, Labradorite, and Lodolite- I can't choose just one.'

Pictured: Our gorgeous One-off Porcelain Jasper and Rose Quartz Asteria pendant.

Jasper is the horoscope stone for Aries.

Jasper is a sedimentary stone known as a "chert". They are each unique and many of these stones are named after the geographical area from which they were discovered.

Porcelain Jasper is one of the more unusual Jaspers and is sometimes also known as Exotica Jasper or as Sci-Fi Jasper.

Jasper unifies all aspects of your life, reminding people to help each other. It absorbs negative energy, balances yin/yang, aligns body, mind, spirit and is known as useful for shamanic travel.

The Ancient Egyptians associated Jasper with the menstrual blood of the goddess Isis and believed that it assisted pregnant women and helped with breastfeeding.

Jasper is believed to help with quick thinking, organizational skills, and the imagination, allowing you to transform your ideas into action.

Do you have a favourite type of jewellery?

'I wear many bangles and bracelets, which I never take off, as well as stone and plain Silver rings. I'm definitely a rings and bracelets kind of girl. You can never have too many.'
